In Case of Rain on Your Wedding Day
One of the most frequently asked questions that we receive during wedding season is “Sooo the forecast is saying rain…what should we do?”
I want to reassure you that even if it rains, you will still have beautiful portraits! Overcast skies always make fore even color tones and less “hot spots” or highlights! I know that rain isn’t ideal, and no bride would wish for rain on their big day, but if it happens, it happens.....and it’s going to be perfectly fine! All you can do is embrace the rain and live in the moment because this is the only day you will wear that dress so you might as well make some magical photos in it to look back on! Trust me, you will look at your photos from your wedding day a million times over but you may revisit the sight of your physical dress in person once every few years. Some of our best weddings have been on rainy wedding days!
Here are a few things to remember:
1. All I need to create natural light portraits on a rainy wedding day is a porch, clear umbrella, awning or shelter!
2. Let me worry about the pictures. You have enough to think about. If there is a chance of rain on the wedding day, we can make a game plan to find a covered location or two for all of your romantic portraits. No shelter? No problem! Snag some clear umbrellas for your bridal party. We typically keep a clear umbrella in our car for you two to snuggle up under!
3. Take it one step at a time. Don’t think about your entire day and what will happen if it rains. That will only overwhelm you! Definitely have a rain plan for your venue, but then let your vendors do the work of handling the rest of the day if rain is happening around you on the day of. The downside to weather is the fact that there is only so much planning you can do before it becomes a “roll with it” moment.
4. Don’t be worried about your hair and makeup! You’re getting it professionally done for a reason! Everything should stay in place aside from a few wispies! You can always freshen up a bit before your introduction at the reception. Rain’s effect on hair and makeup on a wedding day is much like heat and humidity in the summer time. You’ll see more put together brides after portraits under an umbrella in the rain than you will brides who have their photos taken on sunny summer days! Who would have thought?!
